BCRA detailed future development in this important park through a master plan update that will enhance the park over the next 20 years. The initiative included park-wide activities and capital projects pulled together into one comprehensive plan.
Working with Metro Parks and the community to update a 100+ year old master plan for Point Defiance park is one of the highlights of my career. We took the 1911 plan and involved the public to come to a consensus of what was wanted for the park, then created a new aspirational vision for the next 20 years.

A communication plan utilized the whole spectrum of public media, which provided opportunities to engage the broader community. Work also included an analysis of park-wide issues, including traffic and pedestrian circulation, parking, public transportation, utility infrastructure, and hydrology. Once the Master Plan update was drafted, BCRA worked with Metro Parks and City staff to create a DRA, which will streamline the process of undertaking multiple projects under its umbrella and save costs by eliminating the need for individual land use review as the proposed future projects of the master plan come online.
