Island County Stabilization Center

Location: Oak Harbor, WA
Area: 11,000 SF

This stabilization center with ten beds and support and recovery spaces will serve voluntary sub-acute detox patients. The layout for this 10-bed facility responds to the patient intake and stay experience, including medical and psychological needs - a process our team sought to understand before beginning design. Contemporary hospitality spaces inspired the interior aesthetic, which emphasizes thoughtful touches and a positive wellness experience. An open, welcoming reception area sets this tone, and is supported by natural materials and soothing colors. Staff and patient spaces were given equal attention through views connected to nature and flexibility for the user. Dedicated staff spaces are located throughout the building to facilitate workflow and supervision. Outside, intentional landscaping, including Garry oaks that honor the facility’s location in Oak Harbor, aims to aid in healing and allows the facility to blend into the existing environment.
