Gravelly Lake Non-Motorized Trail Improvements

Location: Lakewood, WA
Client: City of Lakewood

BCRA provided engineering design services for non-motorized trail and roadway improvements to approximately 5,000 feet of Gravelly Lake Drive SW. To fit the new trail and sidewalk within the existing right-of-way, the roadway alignment had to be shifted several feet. The roadway profile and three super-elevated curves were designed to match the existing grades as closely as possible, while bringing the roadway up to current standards. Particular attention was paid to the design of the edge conditions because of the many high-value residential properties fronting the road.

Services

The project was designed to limit the creation of new impervious surfaces in order to provide an economical storm drainage system that did not require significant water quality treatment or detention system upgrades. New stormwater infrastructure was designed to collect and convey gutter flows, as the majority of the roadway previously drained to collection points in ditches or along asphalt wedge curbs.
