Albers Mill

Location: Tacoma, WA
Client: Heritage Properties
Area: 45,000 SF

Renovated as part of a downtown revitalization which saw new construction in the Museum of Glass, the Tacoma Art Museum and the renovation of Union Station, the goal for this adaptive reuse from an abandoned cereal mill to a multifamily facility was to respect the authentic, historic nature of the building while carefully considering the impact on the adjacent Museum of Glass and the view corridor.

Services

A new addition that masked structural bracing needed for seismic requirements also amplified the urban theme and industrial motif. Original building elements were preserved as much as possible, including the patina on the brick, heavy timbers and signage.
